Dhaka: A total of 29,912 people have so far received legal assistance at government expense from Dhaka and Chattogram Workers Legal Aid Cells under the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO). The information was published in a report uploaded on the organization's website, official sources said today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 1,330,161 people have received legal assistance at government expense from the organization from 2009 to October this year, among which 447,740 cases of insolvent litigants received legal aid. During the same period, 29,912 people benefited from assistance through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, while 1,077,803 individuals received services through Legal Aid Offices across the country's 64 districts.
The report also highlighted that 192,702 people accessed services through the toll-free call center (16430) under government legal aid, which has recently been updated to 16699. These services have been provided at government expense under the Legal Aid Services Act, aiming to extend legal support to financially insolvent and underprivileged litigants nationwide.
The NLASO operates under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
