Narayanganj: A one-year-old child tragically lost her life when a wall collapsed during an earthquake at Golakanda Union under Rupganj upazila in the Narayanganj district. The incident has cast a shadow over the community as residents grapple with the aftermath of the natural disaster.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the young victim has been identified as Fatema, the daughter of Abdul Haque from the Islam Bagh area. The earthquake not only claimed the life of the child but also left her mother, Kulsum Begum, aged 30, and a neighbor, Jesmin Begum, aged 35, injured.

Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing moments when Kulsum Begum, who resides in a rented house in Islam Bagh with her two children, panicked during the tremors and rushed outside with Fatema in her arms. Simultaneously, their neighbor, Jesmin Begum, also exited her house and stood on the street. It was then that a wall beside the street collapsed, resulting in Fatema’s immediate death from the impact of the falling debris.

The injured, Kulsum and Jesmin, were quickly assisted by locals and transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for urgent medical attention. Mokhlesur Rahman, an inspector at the Bhulta Police Outpost, stated that police officials arrived at the scene soon after the report was received. He confirmed the tragic death of Fatema and the serious injuries sustained by her mother and neighbor, both of whom were taken to DMCH for treatment.
