Washington: President Donald Trump announced on Monday a special fast-track visa process for individuals holding tickets to the 2026 World Cup. However, his administration cautioned that this initiative does not guarantee entry into the United States.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the U.S. has committed to providing a seamless experience for the upcoming tournament, despite concerns that Trump’s stringent border policies might affect fans. Trump, speaking in the Oval Office alongside Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA, urged potential attendees to apply for visas promptly.
Infantino, who has consistently appeared with Trump since the latter’s return to office, emphasized the significance of the “FIFA Pass,” describing it as a critical development. “If you have a ticket for the World Cup, you can have a prioritized appointment to get your visa,” Infantino stated. He projected that between five and ten million people would visit the U.S. for the event and assured that the FIFA Pass would facilitate legitimate soccer fans’ attendance under optimal conditions.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio highlighted that possessing a World Cup ticket does not equate to having a visa or assured entry into the country. “Your ticket is not a visa,” Rubio clarified. He explained that while ticket holders would receive expedited interview appointments within six to eight weeks, they would still undergo the standard vetting process. Rubio encouraged early applications to avoid last-minute complications.
The World Cup has become a pivotal event in Trump’s second term and aligns with the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence next year. However, Trump’s firm policies on various issues have not left the event untouched. He has suggested potentially relocating matches from certain host cities due to concerns over crime and immigration in cities governed by Democrats.
The World Cup draw is scheduled for December 5 in Washington, coinciding with FIFA’s announcement of a new peace prize, which many speculate could be awarded to Trump.
