Khulna: A group of students and local residents distributed sweets in the city today following the announcement of a death sentence verdict against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a case related to crimes against humanity. The event took place at the bustling Shibbari Intersection, where participants expressed their demand for the swift execution of the verdict against Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the gathering included July fighter and student representative Ahmad Hamim Rahat, who stated that participants expressed satisfaction over the verdict, with some opting to distribute sweets as a form of reaction. The atmosphere at Shibbari Intersection was charged, reflecting the participants’ response to the court’s decision.

In a related development, an announcement was made on Sunday night at the same location about a shoe-throwing programme targeting distorted images of Sheikh Hasina, which commenced around 11 a.m. today. This act of protest was part of the broader expression of discontent among the participants.

To ensure the maintenance of law and order, army patrols and additional police forces were deployed at various strategic points in the city, including Shibbari Intersection, from early morning. Despite the heightened security presence, no untoward incidents were reported, indicating a peaceful execution of the day’s events.
