Bogura: A court here today sent former Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Hamidul Alam Milon to jail in a flat sale fraud case. Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Bogura Md. Mehedi Hasan passed the order after hearing the statement of the prosecution and rejected his bail petition.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the fraud case against Hamidul and his wife Shahjadi Alam was initially filed by Zahedur Rahman Tofa on August 21 last year. Two additional alleged victims, Nur Alam and Forkan Ali, also filed separate fraud cases with the court on similar charges. Milon appeared before the court in Tofa's case today but was ordered by the CJM to be taken to jail.
Milon, a resident of Medha Tower in the city's Maltinagar area, was given forced retirement by a presidential order on September 10 for participating in his wife's election campaign. He had taken a month-long leave citing illness during September-October 2023 to campaign for his wife in the Bogura-1 constituency.
Court sources revealed that developer company Messrs. Medha Enterprise, operated by Milon's wife Shahjadi Alam, initiated the construction of a multi-storey building named Medha Shah Castle. In 2018, Taka 100,000 was collected from each of six individuals with the promise of flats in a building under construction behind the Bogura SP Office. The contracts were signed by Medha Enterprise, run by Milon and his wife, for a ten-storey building at the site. However, the handover of the flats to the buyers was allegedly delayed by Milon and his wife.
Nur Alam and his relatives signed their contract on April 8, 2018, but despite the passage of many years, the flats were not handed over. The contract stipulated that if the flats were not handed over within 42 months, the accused would pay Tk 10,000 per month as house-rent compensation. Failing to meet these obligations, the victims demanded repayment, which was allegedly stalled by Shahjadi Alam and Hamidul Alam. Nur Alam subsequently filed another case against Milon and his wife after serving a legal notice.
Bogura Court Police Inspector Shahidul Islam stated that when Milon appeared in court today seeking bail, the petition was rejected, and he was sent to jail. Additionally, the judge issued an arrest warrant against Milon's wife, Shahjadi Alam Lipi.
