Dhaka: Different organizations have called for the maximum punishment of the death penalty for ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two other accused individuals. The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) has commenced the pronouncement of its judgment in a case concerning crimes against humanity, implicating three individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, for their superior command responsibility during the July Mass Uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, organizations such as Manch-24, Janavote Biplobi Manch, and Gono Odhikar Parishad have been actively demonstrating at the Supreme Court's Mazar Gate area. These groups have been vocal in their demands for the death penalty for Sheikh Hasina and the other accused, whom they hold responsible for the offenses committed during the uprising.
Lt Col Hasinur Rahman, a victim of enforced disappearance during Sheikh Hasina's tenure, has also voiced his demand for the death penalty and urged for the swift implementation of the verdict. Additionally, Md. Golam Azam, a July fighter arrested on July 19, echoed similar sentiments, insisting that the verdict should decisively order the death penalty.
Matiur Rahman, leader of Janavote Biplobi Manch, reiterated the demand for the harshest punishment for Sheikh Hasina and the other accused, emphasizing the gravity of the crimes committed during the July uprising.
