Dhaka: Gono Odhikar Parishad President and former DUCSU VP Nurul Haque Nur today declared that the Awami League was rejected by the country’s people through the 2024 mass uprising.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nur expressed his views on the political climate, noting that despite the mass uprising, the Awami League still retains nationwide support. He emphasized that those who did not support what he described as Sheikh Hasina’s fascist regime were affiliated with the party due to circumstances and did not engage in oppression.
Nur appealed to all political parties, including BNP, Jamaat, Gono Odhikar Parishad, and NCP, to provide opportunities for ordinary leaders and activists of the Awami League who wish to engage in politics. He made these remarks while speaking to reporters after placing a wreath at the mazar of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani on his 49th death anniversary.
He advised Awami League members to ignore those who, while living luxuriously abroad with misappropriated funds, encourage them to engage in disruptive activities such as throwing cocktails and creating sabotage. Nur highlighted the historical context, recalling that the Awami League was unable to assume power for 21 years after 1975, and predicted that following the 2024 mass uprising, the party would be unable to participate in politics for another 41 years.
The Gono Odhikar Parishad president urged law enforcement agencies to take decisive action against the fascist forces responsible for sabotage in the country.
