Barishal: Security agencies are on high alert as the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) prepares to deliver its verdict in a high-profile case involving crimes against humanity linked to the July Uprising murder charges against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan. Home Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured the public that all law enforcement agencies are fully prepared to handle any potential disturbances following the court's decision.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Lt Gen Chowdhury made these remarks during a press briefing at the Barishal District Police Lines after a meeting with field-level officials. He emphasized that comprehensive security measures have been implemented to prevent any untoward incidents. "All the law enforcement agencies are now completely ready ahead of the verdict," he stated.
Lt Gen Chowdhury also expressed confidence in the readiness of the field administration to conduct the upcoming parliamentary elections smoothly. He highlighted the importance of collaboration between law enforcement, the Election Commission, and political parties to ensure a fair electoral process. "The field administration is ready to hold the next general election in a free, fair and festive manner," he remarked, noting that public engagement is crucial for a successful election.
In addition to election preparations, Lt Gen Chowdhury addressed recent tensions between transport workers and students over bus fares. He assured that the issue would be resolved through dialogue, instructing law enforcement to remain vigilant to prevent any escalation. Key officials, including Deputy Inspector General of Police Monjur Morshed Alam, Barishal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, and Superintendent of Police Sharif Uddin, were present at the meeting, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining order.
