Govt. Reshuffles Key Police Department Positions

Dhaka: The government today announced a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring several high-ranking officials, including an additional inspector general (Addl-IG), deputy inspector generals (DIGs), additional DIGs, and superintendents of police (SPs).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, four separate circulars from the home affairs ministry detailed the transfers of one Addl-IG, four DIGs, 18 Addl-DIGs, and 15 SPs to various stations. This move is aimed at serving the public interest.

In the reshuffle, Addl-IG Md Fazlul Karim from the police headquarters has been appointed as the rector of Police Staff College, Dhaka. DIG Md Rafiqul Hasan Gani of Police Telecom has been reassigned to the Highway Police as DIG. Similarly, DIG Md Nazrul Islam of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn) will now serve at the APBn headquarters as DIG, and DIG Salma Begum from the Highway Police has been transferred to the APBn (Hill tracts districts office) as DIG.

Additionally, several officers have been shifted to new roles, including the commandant (Addl-DIG) of PSTS, Betbunia, Rangamati, who is moving to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) as Addl-DIG. The reshuffle also includes transfers at the levels of Addl-DIG and SP across various regions and units, reflecting a comprehensive reorganization within the department.

Notably, some officers who recently received promotions, such as SP Md Shariar of the Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) and special SP Dr Mohammad Abdul Kader of the Special Branch (SB), have been assigned to different stations. The reshuffle extends to supernumerary SPs, who have been relocated to various units and districts.

The notification emphasizes that the order, issued in the public interest, will be effective immediately.
