Dhaka: Bangladesh Public Service Commission (BPSC) Chairman Professor Dr. Mobasser Monem stated that it is now essential to modernize the syllabus and question structure of the BCS examination to develop capable, creative, and skilled human resources. He made these remarks at the 'Consultation Workshop on BCS Syllabus and Question Pattern', jointly organized by the Bangladesh Public Service Commission and UNDP at BPSC in Agargaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BPSC chairman highlighted that a syllabus and question framework already exists for recruitment to the civil service through the BPSC. However, ongoing research indicates that some parts of the syllabus are unnecessary, unclear, or excessively lengthy, failing to provide proper guidance for candidates' preparation. As such, revising the syllabus has become a necessity.
Dr. Monem emphasized that a quality syllabus will be developed by aligning knowledge and skills with the national curriculum to recommend recruitment to the Bangladesh Civil Service based on merit and competence. During the workshop, experts on relevant subjects proposed various recommendations to make the syllabus internationally comparable, modern, transparent, and relevant.
Discussants also stressed the importance of developing a syllabus that will be suitable for recommending recruitment to the Bangladesh Civil Service and help develop competencies for other recruitment processes. The Chairman expressed hope that necessary policy decisions will be made after reviewing the opinions and recommendations presented at the workshop. Members of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission, representatives of UNDP, and concerned officials attended the event.
