Dhaka: Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed today announced that Bangladesh's economy is showing signs of recovery, attributing this positive development to various measures implemented by the government to stimulate economic activities. He stated that the economy is in a better state now compared to the difficulties faced in August, with significant improvements in key sectors.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Ahmed made these comments while speaking as the chief guest at the "Nagad-DRU Best Reporting Award 2025" held at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium in the city. He highlighted the positive momentum in the economy, noting improvements in the country's reserves and exports.
Despite acknowledging ongoing domestic challenges, Dr. Ahmed emphasized that Bangladesh enjoys a largely favorable international perception. He mentioned that major global institutions recognize and appreciate the progress being made by the country. However, he stressed the need for fiscal prudence and accountability, pointing out that some mega projects have consumed vast resources without delivering proportional benefits.
Dr. Ahmed urged for lessons to be learned from past experiences and called for greater accountability and restraint in future projects. He emphasized the importance of refining existing structures to ensure a smooth transition to the incoming government, allowing for more modern and effective advancement.
He also highlighted that national development extends beyond economic metrics, stressing the importance of education, health, and social security in creating a happier and more developed Bangladesh. Dr. Ahmed encouraged journalists to engage in investigative reporting and constructive criticism to uncover truths and highlight flaws.
The event was also attended by Chairman of the Management Board BPO-Nagad Kaiser A. Chowdhury as the special guest, along with Dhaka Reporters Unity President Abu Saleh Akon and its General Secretary Mynul Hasan Sohel.
