Dhaka: A Dhaka court has ordered the imprisonment of two Jubo League leaders, including a central committee member, and a former president of the Chuadanga district unit of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL). The individuals in question are Bazlur Rahman, Assistant Secretary of the Jubo League central committee; Mustafizur Rahman Masud, a leader from the Chuadanga district unit of Jubo League; and Sharif Hossain Dudu, a former president of the BCL Chuadanga district committee.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the trio were brought before the court where the police submitted a petition requesting their confinement until the investigation into the cases filed against them is completed. The Metropolitan Magistrate, Israt Jenifar Jerin, after hearing the prosecution, ruled to send them to jail.
The arrests were made on Friday from different locations in Dhaka. The case documents revealed that the leaders and their political associates allegedly organized an anti-government procession in front of Sena Malancha on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway on September 2. The protest was purportedly aimed at carrying out subversive activities against the interim government.
The allegations against them include plotting conspiracies, obstructing the road, spreading panic among the public, and undermining law and order in the country. Following these incidents, a case was filed by the police under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Banani Thana.
