Rajshahi: A two-day international conference on Geosciences for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (ICGSDG) commenced at Rajshahi University (RU), with the Geoscience Faculty of RU hosting the event at its conference hall. The conference aims to bring together researchers, policymakers, and professionals to share knowledge and foster innovation in utilizing geosciences to tackle global challenges.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, RU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Farid Uddin Khan addressed the inaugural ceremony at Senate Bhaban as the chief guest, with Geoscience Faculty Dean Prof AHM Selim Reza presiding over the session. Key speakers included Prof Latifur Rahman and Prof Mijanur Rahman from the Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, as well as Prof Younus Ahmed Khan, Chairman of the Department of Geology and Mining.
Prof Farid Uddin highlighted the conference as a platform for geoscientists and professionals to share the latest findings and trends in their fields. The event seeks to foster collaboration among researchers, policymakers, and industry professionals to address challenges related to natural resources and the environment.
The conference also aims to explore and develop innovative solutions for resource development and environmental challenges, linking geosciences to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A prominent feature of the conference is the presentation of 216 papers across 27 academic sessions, discussing the role of geosciences in the sustainable management of natural resources, including water and energy.
The event will further examine how geosciences contribute to combating climate change, geo-hazards, and environmental degradation. Approximately 350 researchers, scientists, teachers, and policymakers from both domestic and international backgrounds are participating in the conference.
