Lakshmipur: BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny today emphasized that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is free from any tyrannical mindset, asserting that fascist, terrorist, and authoritarian tendencies have never been part of the party's fabric.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anny made these remarks while addressing a "uthan boithok" (courtyard meeting) organized by the Bangakha Union BNP and Mohila Dal (Women's Wing) for wards 1, 2, and 3 of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila. Anny praised the party as fundamentally beneficial for the country, denying any allegations that it could be detrimental to national interests.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by the BNP, Anny pointed out that the party has endured immense oppression, torture, attacks, lawsuits, disappearances, and murders without retaliating against anyone. He depicted the BNP as a party dedicated to the common people, echoing the legacy of President Ziaur Rahman, whom he described as a leader of the common people and villages.
Anny stressed that negative elements could not sustain themselves within Ziaur Rahman's party, given the late president's intolerance for such influences. He further claimed that Ziaur Rahman's popularity was unmatched, as evidenced by what he described as the largest funeral in world history.
In a controversial statement, Anny alleged that President Ziaur Rahman was not allowed to live and accused Sheikh Hasina and a neighboring country of being involved in his assassination. He reassured that both Begum Khaleda Zia and Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman are actively working to fulfill President Ziaur Rahman's vision.
