Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has taken legal action against three individuals, including former Bandar Thana election officer Muhammad Ashraful Alam, for allegedly fabricating birth registration and National Identity Card (NID) using fraudulent information. Ashraful Alam is currently serving as an additional election officer in Feni district. The other individuals involved in the case are Abdul Jalil, a resident of Jasim Colony, South Halishahar, and Pintu Kumar Dey, the former birth registration assistant of Shulakbahar ward no-8 of Chattogram City Corporation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Assistant Director Angti Chowdhury of ACC's Chattogram Divisional Office lodged the case at the ACC's Chattogram Integrated District Office-1. Deputy Director Subel Ahmed confirmed the case filing, explaining that the accused collaborated to fabricate essential state documents. Preliminary findings have substantiated the allegations, and further investigations are underway to identify any additional parties involved.
The ACC's findings indicate an absence of official documents verifying Abdul Jalil's birth, citizenship, or parentage. He allegedly manufactured a birth certificate on July 22, 2011, without valid citizenship documentation. This certificate was reportedly renewed with a forged signature in May 2017. The ACC has accused Muhammad Ashraful Alam and Birth Registration Assistant Pintu Kumar Dey of assisting Abdul Jalil in the creation and endorsement of the fraudulent document.
The fraudulent birth certificate details were used to procure a national identity card from the Election Commission office, registered under a fictitious identity and address. Notably, the sections for parental and spousal identities were omitted in the NID application. Forensic analysis by the ACC verified the forgery of the signature on the birth certificate and the registrar's signature.
