Dhaka: The European Union Delegation in Bangladesh is advancing an initiative named Shoktikonna (Power Women) aimed at empowering young women to become leaders in the renewable energy and sustainability sectors, thereby contributing to an inclusive green transition. This initiative was highlighted during the Green Skills Summit 2025, held on 16 October 2025, which gathered youth, industry leaders, and development partners to focus on enhancing employment opportunities, leadership roles, and decision-making capacities for women.
According to European Union, the initiative is part of the broader Team Europe Initiative on Climate and Energy in Bangladesh, which is mobilizing EUR 3.7 billion. The Summit provided a platform for industry leaders and young participants to discuss ways to enhance women's roles in the green economy.
The event featured important messages from Marjeta Jager, the Deputy Director-General of DG INTPA, European Commission, who emphasized Europe's commitment to fostering partnerships for climate resilience and inclusive growth. Michael Miller, the EU Ambassador to Bangladesh, also stressed the importance of Shoktikonna in equipping women with the necessary skills to lead in the green economy, underscoring the critical role of women leaders in achieving sustainable development goals.
