Rangpur: A six-member Election Commission has been formed for organizing the Begum Rokeya University Central Students’ Union (BRUCSU) and Hall Students’ Union (HTU) elections for the first time since the establishment of the university. This decision was finalized at the 116th syndicate meeting held in the meeting room of the university’s administrative building on Tuesday, a BRUR press release said here tonight.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BRUR Vice-chancellor Professor Dr Md Shawkat Ali presided over the meeting, which was attended by all members of the syndicate. The Election Commission has been established with the syndicate’s approval in accordance with the Formation and Management Rules 2025 of the Central Students’ Union and Hall Students’ Unions of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of the university, Professor Md Ferdous Rahman, has been appointed as the Chief Election Commissioner of the newly formed Election Commission. The five Assistant Election Commissioners appointed are Professor Dr Md Shahzaman from the Department of Statistics, Associate Professor Md Masud Rana from the Department of Management Studies, Associate Professor Dr Pradeep Kumar Sarkar from the Computer Science and Engineering Department, Head of the Department of English Dr Mohsina Ahsan, and Associate Professor Md Hasan Ali from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
The university syndicate expressed hope that this election will foster democratic participation among students and that leadership practices at the university will be strengthened through a free, fair, impartial, and participatory election. The students of BRUR are set to experience the elections of the central and hall student unions for the first time since the university’s inception.
