Cumilla: A delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) visited Cumilla University on Monday to explore new possibilities for joint research and training programs. The primary goal of the visit was to review the potential for teaching, research, and technology-based infrastructure development within the university’s Engineering Faculty and discuss various aspects of future joint cooperation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the JICA team held a discussion meeting at the Vice-Chancellor’s office. Attendees included JICA experts Shoji Akihiro and Katsuki Naho, alongside university officials such as the Head of the CSE Department Dr. Mahmudul Hasan and the Director of the ICT Cell Dr. Md Mehedi Hasan. During the meeting, it was announced that six teachers from Cumilla University will be provided with advanced training in specialized technical fields. This initiative is being implemented under the ‘ICT Engineers Development Project for Promoting ICT Industry and New Innovations,’ a joint project between JICA and the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division.

The advanced training will cover critical areas, including software engineering, cloud computing, and information security. These faculty members, once trained, are expected to serve as trainers for relevant training programs within the university, ensuring that students directly benefit from the project. The Vice-Chancellor used the platform to express the university’s interest in strengthening research collaboration with the National Institute of Informatics (NII), Japan. This proposed cooperation aims to increase the international involvement of both students and researchers in the technology-innovation sector through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The JICA delegation provided assurances of their full support regarding this matter. The delegation was also briefed on the Engineering Faculty’s ongoing activities, research progress, existing lab facilities, and future plans for boosting technology-based innovation. Both JICA and university officials expressed optimism regarding JICA’s potential cooperation across the university’s research, innovation, training, and technological development sectors.
