Jashore: The seventh death anniversary of BNP’s former standing committee member and ex-minister Tariqul Islam was observed here through various programmes. The district BNP and its front organizations organized events to commemorate the senior BNP leader known as the ‘architect of modern Jashore’. He passed away due to old age complications in 2018 at a hospital in Dhaka.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day’s activities included leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates offering fateha at Tariqul Islam’s grave at Karbala Graveyard at around 9am. A doa mahfil was also held, seeking divine blessings for the deceased leader’s soul. Present at the events were BNP central Vice Chairman and wife of the late leader, Prof Nargis Begum, Khulna Divisional Organizing Secretary (acting) and younger son Anida Islam Amit, and district BNP officials Syed Saberul Haque Sabu and Delwar Hossain Khokon.
Ahead of the doa mahfil, members of Jatiyatabadi Shramik Dal distributed food to the working class to mark the occasion. The district unit of Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal hosted a Quran Khani, doa mahfil, and food distribution at Birampur Hafizia Madrasha and Orphanage. In addition, the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal organized a blood donation event at the same venue, while Zila Matshajibi Dal provided caps and prayer mats to attendees.
Moreover, the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal district unit donated water filters to 40 educational institutions in the area. Similar commemorative events are set to continue across the district tomorrow and the day after, said district BNP President and General Secretary.
A memorial meeting for the leader from the south-western part of the country is scheduled at Jashore Town Hall Maidan on November 6 at 3pm. District BNP President Advocate Saberul Haque Sabu indicated that BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is expected to grace the memorial as the chief guest.
