Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Dr. Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher today emphasized the necessity of reforms for the nation's progress, democracy, and governance, asserting that the party will not compromise on this critical issue. "Reform is essential for the people of Bangladesh, for democracy, for good governance and for development. We will make no compromise on the question of reform," he declared.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Taher was speaking at a seminar titled 'The Black Claw of Fascism from October 28 to August 5 and the Challenges of Future Bangladesh' at the Institution of Diploma Engineers' multipurpose hall in Kakrail. He highlighted the importance of political and institutional reforms as the cornerstone of the country's democratic future.
Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Taher noted, is steadfast in pursuing a three-step strategy to ensure democratic consolidation in Bangladesh-reform, justice, and election. "In February - our first priority is reform; second, trial; and third, we will assist in implementing your dream of a festive, people-oriented election," he elaborated.
He cautioned against any efforts to reinstate fascism or centralize power in the hands of a few, warning that such actions could lead to authoritarian rule. "Fascism does not fall from the sky. It grows when excessive power is concentrated in one person's hands. The people of Bangladesh want that system changed," he stated.
Dr. Taher commended the leadership of Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus and encouraged him to persist with the reform agenda. "If you carry these reforms properly, your name will be written in the history of Bangladesh as an exceptional leader. We want to see you as a hero," he remarked.
He further asserted that the interim government should focus on the nation's welfare rather than appeasing any political party. Dr. Taher urged the advisory council to take a robust stance in promoting national interests and cautioned that any compromise or uncertainty in the reform process could lead the nation into turmoil.
"Our commitment is with the people. If confusion is created through compromise, the entire process will fall into uncertainty, and the nation could once again drift into darkness," he warned.
Other notable speakers at the seminar included Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Maulana Abdul Halim, JAGPA Vice President and Party Spokesperson Rashed Pradhan, and Islami Andolon Bangladesh presidium member Ashraf Ali Akand. The event was chaired by Jamaat Dhaka City South Ameer Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul, with Dr. Shafiqul Islam Masud, secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami's Dhaka South unit, conducting the seminar.
