Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Mohammad Azaz today emphasized the importance of public awareness and coordinated efforts among service-providing agencies in controlling the spread of dengue. He addressed these points during a press conference focused on the current dengue situation and control activities, held at the DNCC headquarters in Gulshan.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Azaz highlighted the proactive measures taken earlier this year, which included consultations with public health experts and the implementation of their recommendations at the onset of the monsoon season. He shared promising data indicating a decrease in both dengue cases and fatalities compared to previous years. However, he stressed that "even a single death from dengue is unacceptable to us."
Azaz acknowledged the challenges posed by limited manpower but assured that DNCC is committed to providing the best possible service. In response to inquiries, he revealed that the DNCC has recently appointed seven field inspectors to enhance operations, aligning with expert advice.
The press conference was attended by DNCC's Acting Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Asaduzzaman, Chief Health Officer Brigadier General Imrul Kayes Chowdhury, entomologist Professor Md Rashedul Islam, representatives from health agencies and hospitals, and senior DNCC officials.
