7 Businesses Penalized for Consumer Rights Violations in Chandpur

Dhaka: The Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has imposed fines on seven business operators, including four hotel proprietors, amounting to a total of Taka 55,000 in Hajiganj upazila for infringements on consumer rights.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the penalties were administered during a collaborative operation held at Hajiganj Bazar on Sunday afternoon. The operation was executed by the Chandpur District Office of DNCRP in conjunction with law enforcement agencies. Abdullah Al Imran, Assistant Director of DNCRP, reported the inspection team discovered expired merchandise, decomposed food stored in refrigeration units, and unsanitary cooking conditions in multiple establishments.

Among those penalized, Star Hotel and Suites received a fine of Taka 20,000 for possessing expired and spoiled food items and for conducting food preparation in unsanitary surroundings. Gauchia Highway Restaurant, Nargis Food, and Rajmahal Hotel each incurred a fine of Taka 5,000 for producing food under unclean and unhygienic circumstances.

Further, VIP Diagnostic Center was fined Taka 5,000 for not exhibiting a service price list, Welcome Super Shop was fined Taka 5,000 for failing to display expiration dates on products, and Bandhu Pharmacy faced a fine of Taka 10,000 for stocking expired medications intended for sale.

The business owners involved committed to refraining from future violations. Additionally, the DNCRP team disseminated leaflets and pamphlets to enhance public awareness about consumer rights and to promote adherence to legal standards.

Assistant Director Imran emphasized that such operations will persist on a regular basis to safeguard public interests, with continued support from joint forces.
