Md. Faisal Ahmed and Sonia Akhter Tumpa Clinch Top Honors at 21st National Long Distance Swimming Competition 2025

Munshiganj: The '21st National Long Distance Swimming Competition 2025', organized by the Bangladesh Swimming Federation and sponsored by the Bangladesh Navy, was successfully held today in the Dhaleshwari River of Munshiganj district. Thirty-five swimmers from across Bangladesh participated, with 23 competing in the male category and 12 in the female category, as per an ISPR release.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the race commenced at 9:30 am from Baktavali Launch Ghat in Narayanganj district and concluded at Munshiganj Launch Ghat on the Dhaleshwari River. Male participants swam approximately ten kilometers, while the female swimmers covered around seven kilometers.

Md. Faisal Ahmed of Bangladesh Army emerged victorious in the male category, followed by Palash Chowdhury of Bangladesh Navy, Nurul Islam of Bangladesh Army, Ashikur Rahman of Munshiganj District Sports Association, and Md. Imran of Nikli Swimming Club securing the second to fifth positions respectively. In the women's category, Sonia Akhter Tumpa of Bangladesh Navy claimed the top spot, with Mukti Khatun of Bangladesh Army, Rupa Khatun of Bangladesh Navy, Salma Khatun of Bangladesh Army, and Sadia Khatun of Gorai Swimming Club finishing in the subsequent positions.

The prize distribution and closing ceremony took place at Munshiganj Launch Ghat Terminal. Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, President of Bangladesh Swimming Federation and Chief of Naval Staff, awarded crests, certificates, and monetary prizes to the winners and participants as the chief guest. The event was graced by Rear Admiral Abdullah-Al-Maqsoos, Commander Dhaka Naval Area, Commodore Arif Ahmed Mustafa, Chairman of BIWTA; and Fatema Tul Jannat, Deputy Commissioner of Munshiganj, along with senior officials from the Bangladesh Navy and the district sports association.
