Patuakhali: Paying rich tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, BNP Vice Chairman and former home minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury today emphasized Ziaur Rahman's dedication to societal and national welfare. Chowdhury described Ziaur Rahman as "agriculture friendly" during a view exchange meeting with the Dumki upazila unit of Krishak Dal at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chowdhury highlighted that Ziaur Rahman's 19-point programme quickly gained widespread acceptance among the populace. He underscored the importance of agriculture as a key economic driver and credited Ziaur Rahman with bringing revolutionary changes that enabled the country to achieve self-sufficiency in food production. Chowdhury lauded Ziaur Rahman as a "true patriot" whose contributions would be eternally respected by the nation.
Chowdhury also noted that the 31-point programme announced by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is gaining acceptance among the people as a charter for the nation's liberation. He voiced concerns about a vested group engaged in propaganda to disrupt elections and called for vigilance and vocal opposition against these conspiracies.
The meeting was presided over by Dumki Upazila Krishak Dal President Md. Jahangir Alam and conducted by General Secretary Zahidul Islam. Various prominent figures, including Maqsud Ahmed Bayezid Panna, Mojibar Rahman, Jasmine Jafar, Advocate Taifiq Ali Khan Kabir, Syed Mostafizur Rahman Rumi, Advocate Anisur Rahman, Md. Jasimuddin, and Matiur Rahman Dipu, also addressed the gathering. Member secretary of Krishak Dal district unit Tariqul Islam Ivan served as the key speaker.
