Dhaka: A workshop on 'Development of Evidence-Based Protocols for Gynecological Cancer Management' was held at Bangladesh Medical University (BMU). The event marked a significant collaboration between BMU and Harvard Medical School, USA.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the workshop featured prominent figures such as the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) of BMU, Prof Dr Md Abul Kalam Azad, who attended as the chief guest. Special guests included university Treasurer Prof Dr Nahreen Akhter and renowned gynecologist Prof Dr Sabera Khatun. The event was chaired by Prof Dr Jannatul Ferdous, Chairperson of the Gynecological Oncology Department.
The workshop included addresses from Vice-Chancellor of BMU, Prof Dr Md Shahinul Alam, Harvard Medical School's Prof Dr Annekathryn Goodman, and other notable academics and medical professionals. Prof Dr Fauzia Hossain concluded the event with a vote of thanks.
Speakers emphasized the importance of evidence-based medical practices in improving gynecological cancer management. Prof Dr Shahinul Alam highlighted that such practices reduce healthcare costs and ensure proper treatment by considering research evidence, expert experience, and patient rights. BMU's recognition as an 'Evidence Ambassador' for 2025 by the World Evidence-Based Healthcare Day was also announced.
Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad remarked on the significance of evidence-based medicine in modern medical science, ensuring best treatment practices through research data. Prof Dr Nahreen Akhter and Prof Dr Sabera Khatun echoed the global recognition of this approach, advocating for more workshops to broaden medical education and research.
An agreement was signed between BMU and Harvard Medical School to further evidence-based medical practice and research. A Memorandum of Understanding was also established between BMU's Gynecological and Clinical Oncology Departments and Harvard Medical School, along with Massachusetts General Hospital. This collaboration aims to enhance gynecological cancer treatment, facilitate exchange programs, provide training, and conduct joint research, thereby advancing oncology care in Bangladesh.
