Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of police today arrested a woman drug racketeer from the city’s Uttara area and seized 285 kilograms of ganja from her possession. The operation highlights ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DB Wari division, acting on information from a reliable source, learned that a gang of drug racketeers was waiting with a large consignment of drugs near the Bata Showroom on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway around 2:30 am. Responding promptly to this intelligence, three DB teams were dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival, the officers found a woman, identified as Rubi Akhter, standing with a travel bag and a plastic bag near a private car and a microbus. As the DB personnel approached, the vehicles swiftly departed the scene. The police managed to apprehend Rubi Akhter, but her husband, Harun Sarkar, aged 34, successfully evaded capture.

The police subsequently seized 132 packets of ganja, weighing a total of 285 kilograms, from the travel bag and plastic bag in Rubi Akhter’s possession. The confiscated cannabis is estimated to be worth approximately Taka 71,25,000.

The DB officials stated that Rubi Akhter and her husband Harun are members of a significant drug trafficking network and have been actively involved in drug smuggling activities between the bordering areas of Cumilla and Dhaka for a considerable period.

Law enforcement has initiated appropriate legal actions against Rubi Akhter and her husband in connection with the case.
