Dhaka: Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury today assured of ensuring a level playing field ahead of the upcoming parliamentary election aimed at holding an 'excellent polls'. The home adviser made the remarks after emerging from the 15th meeting of the Council of Advisers on law and order at his ministry in Bangladesh Secretariat here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, regarding allegations from some political parties about biased postings of government officials, Chowdhury refuted the claims, stating that they have yet to receive any such allegations. He emphasized that postings were made through proper verifications, dismissing requests from various quarters. He urged journalists to report any irregularities or instances where postings might have been influenced by bribes, while also discouraging any requests for specific postings.
Responding to a query about the proper conduct of political parties and the electorate, he expressed confidence that the upcoming parliamentary polls would be held appropriately if all parties and citizens act responsibly. He reiterated his belief that the next election must be conducted properly.
Chowdhury also mentioned that they are considering lowering the number of SIM card registrations per person from ten to seven ahead of the elections, with plans to further reduce this to five in phases. He highlighted issues of criminal activities involving SIM cards registered under other names.
Addressing recent incidents, the Home Adviser called on the media to educate the public on fire prevention measures following three significant fire incidents. In response to a question about murders in Rangunia and Rawjan, he assured that efforts are being made to reduce such crimes.
Regarding clashes in Brahmanbaria, he advocated for a social movement to prevent further misdeeds, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in tackling these issues.
