Dhaka: National Consensus Commission today held a meeting with the families of the July martyrs at the LD Hall of the National Parliament. Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Ali Riaz, members Dr. Badiul Alam Majumder, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Dr. Mohammad Ayub Mia, and Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on National Consensus Building Process Monir Haider, among others, were present in the meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the family members of the July martyrs informed the commission that the ideals and objectives for which their children had sacrificed their lives have not been fulfilled even today. They stressed that the July Charter needs to have a legal basis, and emphasized the importance of ensuring their safety and security.
The commission acknowledged that while they are aware that the July Foundation is working on the issue, they were not aware that the martyrs’ families are not receiving the expected support. The commission assured that all concerns will be communicated to the relevant authorities.
Additionally, when the martyrs’ families expressed their desire to meet the Chief Advisor, the commission pledged their cooperation in facilitating such a meeting. A 10-member delegation of the July martyrs’ families was present, including Shahidul Islam Bhuiyan, Mir Mostafizur Rahman, Md. Mohiuddin, Kabir Hossain, Md. Abdul Matin, Md. Golam Razzak, Md. Gaus Ullah, Saif Ahmed Khan, Md. Obaidul Haque, and Syed Gaziur Rahman.
