Sirajganj: Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan has alleged that Jamaat leaders and activists faced significant persecution during the Awami League's governance. He accused the ruling party of attempting to suppress Islamist activities and the presence of Jamaat in the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rafiqul Islam Khan addressed these concerns during the district Jamaat's biannual members' (Rukon) conference at the Sirajganj Shilpakala Academy. He claimed that during the Awami League's tenure, innocent Jamaat leaders were victims of killings, abductions, and judicial executions under false accusations, which he described as a "shameful chapter" in history. He demanded that those responsible for these "judicial killings" be tried in a special tribunal.
Rafiqul Islam Khan also emphasized the need for a fair environment ahead of the national elections, asserting that if Jamaat were allowed to serve, it would work towards creating a corruption-free Bangladesh. The conference was led by Sirajganj District Jamaat Ameer and Jamaat-nominated MP candidate for Sirajganj-1 (Kazipur) constituency, Maulana Shahinur Alam.
The event featured Central Working Committee Member and Jamaat candidate for Sirajganj-3 (Raiganj-Tarash) constituency Dr. Abdus Samad, and Pabna District Ameer Professor Abu Taleb Mondol as special guests. Other attendees included District Naib-e-Ameer Principal Ali Alam, Maulana Abdus Salam, local Jamaat leaders, and approximately 1,750 male and female members (Rukon). The event was conducted by District Secretary and Jamaat candidate for Sirajganj-2 (Sadar) constituency, Lecturer Zahidul Islam.
