Dhaka: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam today urged journalists to document the stories of every martyr from the July 2024 mass uprising. He made this call during an event commemorating the 21st founding anniversary of the Daily Naya Diganta, held at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tajul emphasized the importance of capturing the language and emotions of the new generation. Political leaders and professionals from various fields attended the event, offering their best wishes to Naya Diganta on its milestone anniversary.
Tajul stressed the significance of engaging with the families of each martyr to document their stories, highlighting the need to understand the inner transformation that occurred during the revolution. He noted the graffiti on the walls of Dhaka University as a reflection of the youth's language and expressions, urging the need to build a narrative around these elements.
He also critiqued the media's portrayal of the current regime under Sheikh Hasina, pointing out the lack of coverage on issues like enforced disappearances and the stories of the martyrs from the July movement. Tajul called for these stories to be brought to light to truly comprehend the impact of the uprising.
In his address, Tajul reflected on the underestimated potential of the younger generation, citing their role in the revolution as an epic tale that should be immortalized for future generations. He extended his greetings to Naya Diganta on its anniversary, acknowledging their role in the media landscape.
