Pirojpur: The Pirojpur District unit of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Ziaur Rahman Foundation have jointly honoured two veterans, Shahjahan Badsha and Hemayet Hossain, for their participation in the voluntary canal digging programme alongside BNP founder and Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in 1977. The honorary crests were awarded following the Arafat Rahman Koko Memorial Football Tournament held at Bhabanipur playground in Indurkani upazila.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the two veteran BNP activists expressed deep emotions as they reminisced about working with Ziaur Rahman, who laboured alongside them like a common worker. They described the recognition as one of the greatest achievements of their lives, highlighting the importance of the honour in acknowledging their contributions.
Ziaur Rahman Foundation Director Saeed Khan emphasized that Shahjahan Badsha and Hemayet Hossain serve as inspirations for the younger generation. Their dedication and commitment during the canal digging initiative reflect the spirit of volunteerism and community service.
The event was graced by the presence of Pirojpur District BNP Member-Secretary Saidul Islam Kismat, who attended as the chief guest. The ceremony not only celebrated the contributions of the two veterans but also commemorated the efforts of Ziaur Rahman, who visited Pirojpur in 1977 to engage in the nationwide canal digging campaign aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity.
