Sunamganj: A mother and her daughter were killed and at least 10 others were injured early Friday in a road accident while traveling to Tanguar Haor in Sunamganj. The fatal crash occurred around 5:30 am in Inatnagar area near Pagla Bazar under Shantiganj upazila of the district.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims were identified as Manjura Akhter, 37, and her daughter Ayesha Siddika, 10. They were the wife and daughter of Abdullah Al Mamun, an officer of the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC). Mamun, originally from Doalia village in Chandpur district, is currently residing in Dhaka.

Police and witnesses reported that 11 BCIC officials, along with their families, left Dhaka on a Senjuti Travels bus for a trip to Tanguar Haor. The bus overturned, resulting in the instant deaths of Manjura Akhter and Ayesha Siddika.

At least 10 passengers sustained injuries in the accident. Locals quickly responded, rescuing the injured and transporting them to the Shantiganj Upazila Health Complex for medical care.

Following the incident, teams from Shantiganj Fire Service and Joykals Highway Thana police arrived at the scene to conduct a rescue operation. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Suman Kumar Chowdhury of Joykals Highway Thana said, “We found the bus overturned in a ditch. The bodies of the deceased were recovered with the assistance of the fire service.”
