Rangpur: An auto-rickshaw driver was killed and a passenger injured in a road accident at Ekorchali bus stand on the Dhaka-Dinajpur highway in Taraganj upazila of Rangpur today. The deceased was identified as Md Motaleb Hossain, 35, of Kishoreganj upazila in Nilphamari district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident occurred when a Saidpur-bound passenger bus from Mymensingh swerved into the wrong lane and collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw, as stated by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Taraganj Highway Police Station Md Mostafizur Rahman. Motaleb died on the spot, while another passenger was critically injured and sent to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
Police have seized both the bus and the damaged auto-rickshaw. The bus driver fled the scene of the accident. A case has been filed with Taraganj Police Station in connection with the incident, the OC added.
