Seminar Explores Regional Geopolitical Impact on Bangladesh’s Security

Dhaka: A seminar titled ‘Regional Geopolitical Landscape: Impacts on the Security Dynamics of Bangladesh and Ways Forward’ was convened at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS). The event was jointly organized by the Armed Forces Division (AFD) and BIISS.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar featured Shipping, and Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hussain as the chief guest. The seminar was also attended by the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan, serving as the special guest. A diverse group of participants, including diplomats, ambassadors, military attach©s, senior military officers, officials from various ministries, and media representatives, were present.



BIISS Director General Major General Iftekhar Anis delivered the welcome address. Adviser Dr M Sakhawat Hussain highlighted the geopolitical challenges facing Bangladesh, focusing on regional developments and the Rohingya issue. He underscored the necessity of regional stability and cooperation for national security, advocating for balanced, interest-based international relations.



Lieutenant General S M Kamrul Hassan addressed the complexities of the current geopolitical landscape. He emphasized the importance of strategic clarity, visionary policymaking, and developing a defense industry to navigate these challenges.



The keynote paper was presented by Professor Dr. A. S. M. Ali Ashraf, Chairman of the Department of International Relations at the University of Dhaka. Additional insights were provided by panel discussants, Professors Dr. Niloy Ranjan Biswas and Dr. Shahab Enam Khan. The session was moderated by M Humayun Kabir, former ambassador and President of the Bangladesh Enterprise Institute, while Captain Shafiul Muznibin of the Armed Forces Division conducted the seminar.



Speakers at the seminar examined Bangladesh’s security and foreign policy within the context of regional geopolitical priorities. They stressed the importance of regional cooperation, diplomatic balance, enhancing defense capabilities, and addressing non-traditional security threats.



The seminar is anticipated to contribute to safeguarding national interests and formulating a pragmatic and effective strategy in response to global changes.
