Dhaka: BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie today expressed solidarity with demonstrating Monthly Pay Order (MPO)-listed teachers and pledged that the party would bring them under nationalization if elected to power. Speaking at a gathering at the Central Shaheed Minar, Annie emphasized the party's commitment to addressing the teachers' demands, which focus on fair employment benefits and state security.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Annie highlighted that BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman has already extended his support to the teachers' cause. He assured the gathering that BNP is committed to ensuring the dignity and welfare of teachers, recognizing their contributions and hardships. Annie stated, "If BNP forms the next government through the people's mandate, we will move forward with the nationalization of teachers."
Addressing the inadequacy of the current benefits, Annie criticized the existing five percent house rent allowance and urged the authorities to seriously consider the teachers' demands. The teachers are advocating for a 20 percent house rent, Tk 1,500 in medical allowance, and a 75 percent festival bonus.
The event also witnessed the presence of BNP Training Affairs Secretary A.B.M. Mosharraf Hossain, who stood in support of the teachers. Teachers from across the country have gathered in Dhaka to press for these demands, seeking improvements in their employment conditions.
