Jhenaidah: A court in Jhenaidah has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for his involvement in an oil adulteration case at Satota Oil Mill in the Hamdah area. The verdict was delivered by Judge Mahbub Alam of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 in the presence of the accused, as confirmed by bench assistant Md. Shamim Hossain.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ashraful Islam, also known as Ashraf Mistiri, a resident of Khandaker Para, was convicted for mixing burnt mobil fuel with 10 drums of mustard oil on the night of December 16, 2010. This act was allegedly planned and executed with the support of A. Malek, owner of Sher-e-Bangla Oil and Rice Mill, and Hafizur Rahman, the former chairman of Kalicharanpur Union.
The incident led Nowsher Ali, the owner of Satota Oil Mill, to file a case with the Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station. The subsequent investigation, led by Azizur Rahman, resulted in a charge sheet being filed against seven individuals. However, during the trial, Hafiz Rahman, one of the accused, passed away in 2021. The court acquitted the remaining five individuals due to insufficient evidence against them.
