Dhaka: Bangladesh has successfully sent 822,902 workers abroad for employment in the past nine months, with Saudi Arabia emerging as the top destination.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officials from the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) confirmed that nearly two-thirds of these workers, precisely 586,764, secured jobs in Saudi Arabia by the end of September.
Md Ashraf Hossain, the additional director general of BMET, highlighted the organization’s efforts to facilitate overseas employment opportunities. BMET is actively providing basic skills training to prospective overseas workers, focusing particularly on those bound for Saudi Arabia, which requires specific skills for employment. Hossain noted that the training initiative aims to prepare 50,000 overseas job seekers each month.
According to the official, Saudi Arabia-bound job seekers undergo a three-day training program, which costs Tk. 2,000 and includes online admission. Following the training, each worker is required to pay US$50 for a test. To further enhance skill development, the government has allocated Tk. 3.70 crore to develop 61 training organizations for aspiring migrant workers. Bangladesh currently operates 47 state-run vocational training centers and four institutes of marine technology to support this initiative.
The Bangladesh Bank (BB) reported a significant increase in remittance inflows, with a 9.6 percent year-on-year growth. In the first 15 days of October, remittances reached US$1435 million, compared to $1310 million during the same period last year. From July to October 15, 2025, expatriates sent home a total of $9,021 million, up from $7,853 million during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
