DB Arrests Four and Recovers 190 Bhori Stolen Gold in Major Heist

Dhaka: The Detective Branch (DB) of Police has successfully arrested four individuals and recovered approximately 190 bhori of gold ornaments and 93.5 grams of silver following a significant heist at a jewellery shop in Fortune Shopping Mall, located in the capital’s Malibagh area.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the suspects apprehended include Shahin Matabbar alias Shahin alias Shahid, aged 46, Anita Roy, aged 31, Md Nurul Islam, aged 33, and Uttam Chandra Sur, aged 49, as revealed in a Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) release. Alongside the recovery of the stolen items, police confiscated Taka 1.77 lakh in cash and a motorcycle from the suspects.



The DMP release detailed the modus operandi of the heist: the culprits accessed the market by climbing a rope attached to a window in one of the toilets. Disguised in burqas, they broke open the toilet door, entered the market, and looted the jewellery store before fleeing at around 4:30 am.



The DB’s investigation led to the arrest of Shahin Matabbar in Chattogram on October 16, with the recovery of 121.07 bhori of the stolen gold from his cattle shed. On the same day, Anita Roy was detained in Uzirpur, Barishal, and 52.81 bhori of gold was retrieved from her possession.



Md Nurul Islam was arrested from Siddhirganj, Narayanganj. A motorcycle, Taka 1.77 lakh in cash (proceeds from selling the stolen gold), and around two bhori of gold were recovered from him. Meanwhile, Uttam Chandra Sur, who allegedly financed the heist, was arrested at his Shakharibazar residence, where police recovered 13.67 bhori of gold ornaments.
