Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed declared the commencement of a new era following the signing of the July National Charter. He emphasized the establishment of robust democratic institutions and the creation of constitutional bodies to ensure balance across all sectors of the state. He assured that no state organ would dominate another.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salahuddin shared these remarks during a media briefing at the July National Charter signing ceremony held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad. He expressed aspirations for building an effective democratic state where all organs operate within their constitutional limits.
He also extended an invitation to political parties that have not yet signed the July Charter, indicating that the opportunity to join remains open. Salahuddin expressed his hope that any remaining parties would eventually sign the charter.
During the event, Salahuddin conveyed his gratitude to Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus, the National Consensus Commission members, other political party leaders, and the media representatives for their involvement in the discussions leading up to the signing.
Addressing questions about the election method, Salahuddin clarified the role of the Election Commission, citing the Constitution. He referenced Article 65, Sub-section (2), which mandates that Parliament shall comprise 300 members elected through direct, popular votes from their respective constituencies, leaving no room for public confusion.
