Dhaka: The government has extended the tenure of the National Consensus Commission (NCC) until October 31. The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification to this effect today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seven-member commission, led by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, was established on February 12 of this year with the mandate to review and adopt recommendations from six reform commissions. Professor Ali Riaz, the head of the Constitution Reform Commission, was appointed as the vice-chairman of the NCC.
The other members of the commission include Dr. Md Aiyub Mia, Safar Raj Hossain, Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, Justice Md Emdadul Haque, and Dr. Iftekharuzzaman. Additionally, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haidar is actively participating in the consensus-building process with the commission.
The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs is tasked with providing all necessary secretarial support to the National Consensus Commission.
