Satkhira: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-6 and the district administration seized 800 kg of banned polythene from Janani Courier Service at Bangaler Mor area of the district town this afternoon. A mobile court led by executive magistrate Md. Tajul Islam later fined the courier service Taka 25,000.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was conducted by a team of RAB from the Satkhira camp, acting on a tip-off. The team, in collaboration with the district administration, raided the Bangaler Mor area and confiscated the illegal polythene from Janani Courier Service.
Following the successful seizure, the mobile court imposed a fine of Taka 25,000 on the courier service for contravening the Department of Environment’s regulations. Executive magistrate Md. Tajul Islam highlighted that the Environmental Protection Act in Bangladesh strictly prohibits the use and marketing of environmentally harmful polythene.
He noted that some traders continue to flout these rules, driven by the desire for higher profits, by marketing the harmful polythene. Md. Tajul Islam assured that such enforcement operations would persist to curb these illegal activities.
