Australian Delegation Engages with Bangladesh Election Commission on Electoral Support

Dhaka: A delegation from Australia, led by Minister for International Development and Multicultural Affairs Dr Anne Aly, met Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at his office in Nirbachan Bhaban, Agargaon in the capital.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, the Australian minister expressed a keen interest in understanding how Australia could assist with the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections in Bangladesh. The delegation sought information on potential areas where Australian support could be beneficial.



EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed, speaking to reporters, described the meeting as primarily a courtesy call. He mentioned that the delegation was interested in learning about Bangladesh’s electoral process, preparations, and progress. The Australian representatives also shared their experiences with the Election Commission.



The discussions also covered topics related to electoral cooperation. The EC Secretary highlighted that the conversation touched upon the intervention of artificial intelligence, issues of information misuse, and the challenges posed by disinformation and fake news. The Australian delegation acknowledged facing similar challenges in their electoral processes.
