Narayanganj: In an ongoing effort to prevent gas theft and ensure discipline in the distribution network, Petrobangla conducted a special drive in Narayanganj’s Bandar and Meghnaghat areas on Monday. Executive Magistrate Milton Roy from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, with the support of Vigilance Team-3 of Petrobangla and the Regional Vigilance Office, led the operation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the drive was carried out in three separate locations within the areas. At Andirpara in the Bandar area, a commercial lime factory was found to be illegally using gas to operate three kilns, each consuming 6,000 cubic feet of gas per hour. In response, the illegal distribution line was disconnected, the kilns were demolished, and approximately 80 feet of pipeline were removed from the premises.

At the second location, Everest Power Generation Company Ltd. in Meghnaghat, no evidence of gas use was found since the main gas connection had already been disconnected. However, to prevent any potential bypassing or unauthorized usage, a thorough inspection of the Regulating and Metering Station (RMS) and house lines was conducted. As a precaution, four safety seals were installed on the RMS meter and inlet valve.

The drive also uncovered an illegal commercial connection at the third site, which was subsequently disconnected, as mentioned in the official handout.
