Habiganj: Three children drowned in a pond at Chanpur Tea Garden of Chunarughat upazila today. The tragic incident occurred during the wedding festivities of a relative, which the children attended with their guardians.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased have been identified as Moskan Akhter, 13, daughter of Selim Mia; Shamima Akhter, 12, daughter of Sajid Ali; and Sania Akhter, 9, daughter of Majid Ali. All of the children were from the Ramganga area of Chunarughat upazila.
The unfortunate incident took place while the children were taking a bath in the pond amidst the wedding arrangements. Despite the timely efforts of the locals who rushed them to the upazila health complex, the on-duty doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Officer-in-Charge of Chunarughat Police Station, Zahidul Islam, has confirmed the incident, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of young lives in such a manner.
