Dhaka: Land Ministry's Senior Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed today emphasized the importance of a people-friendly and service-oriented approach for newly recruited officials in Bangladesh. 'The new Bangladesh will be a state with the combination of good governance, technology, innovation and humanity . . . Bangladesh is moving firmly on the path of development and progress today,' he stated during the 78th Basic Training Course at the Public Administration Training Center (PATC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event saw the participation of 11 officers who engaged in training within the Ministry of Land's meeting room. Senior Secretary ASM Saleh Ahmed highlighted the critical role of an efficient, ethical, and responsible state administration in transforming Bangladesh into a developed nation. He remarked, 'The soul of this administration is the new officials, who are joining the state administration with new thoughts, enthusiasm and patriotism as well.'
He further stressed the importance of maintaining close contact with the public, understanding their issues, and adopting a quick problem-solving approach to foster a service-oriented administration. The land secretary indicated that an officer's role transcends merely implementing government instructions, positioning them instead as catalysts for change. 'Therefore, leadership qualities, firmness in decision-making and a cooperative attitude towards colleagues are important here,' he added.
Saleh Ahmed advised the new officials to embody honesty, patriotism, and dedication, which are essential qualities expected by the public from government officials. 'We have to restore trust among the people from the place of distrust of the past 17 years through professionalism. If they remain steadfast in the path of honesty and justice in performing their duties, transparency and accountability will be ensured in the administration,' he noted.
He concluded by underscoring the priority of serving the public devoid of corruption, irregularities, and vested interests, while encouraging the acquisition of skills to perform duties with integrity and ethics. Additionally, the senior secretary highlighted the necessity of utilizing technology, artificial intelligence, e-governance, and data management to enhance public service accessibility.
Land Ministry's Additional Secretaries Md Shariful Islam, Md Abdur Rouf, Saima Yunus, Md. Emdadul Haque Chowdhury, and Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman were also in attendance.
