Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana emphasized the critical role of information officers in tackling rumors, disinformation, and deepfake technology, particularly during national elections. Addressing the 42nd Professional Entry Course of BCS (Information) at the National Institute of Mass Communication (NIMCO), she highlighted the need for professionalism and integrity in countering these challenges.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahbuba Farjana stated that the onus on information officers to ensure the accuracy and objectivity of information flow has significantly increased. She stressed that misinformation, disinformation, fake news, and deepfakes must be managed firmly and efficiently.
The Secretary underscored the importance of effective coordination between information officers and the district administration to thwart rumors and propaganda, aiming to present a model election to the nation. She also expressed optimism that the three-month-long training would equip officers to meet these challenges successfully.
The meeting, presided over by NIMCO Director General Muhammad Hiruzzaman, saw participation from 22 officials from the Department of Films and Publications, Department of Mass Communication, and Press Information Department (PID) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
