Training on Climate-Resilient Agriculture Begins at BAU

Mymensingh: A three-day training workshop on "Climate Resilient Agriculture (CRA) Related to Pest Management" commenced today at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh. The workshop, organized by the Department of Entomology, is being conducted at the Professor Golam Ali Fakir Seed Pathology Centre. Support for the event comes from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this initiative is part of an FAO-assisted project entitled "Strengthening the Capacities of Government Counterparts and Relevant Stakeholders for Increasing Productivity and Building Climate Resilient Agriculture through Nature-based Solutions (NBS) in Asia (TCP/RAS/3907)." The event was inaugurated by Prof Dr Masum Ahmed, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, who served as the chief guest.

The inaugural session saw participation from several distinguished attendees, including FAO National Consultant Prof Dr Parimal Kanti Biswas, Head of the Department of Agrometeorology and Department of Agronomy Dr Ahmed Khairul Hasan, Prof Dr Mohammad Ali Hossain of the Department of Plant Pathology, and Project Chief of the Department of Entomology Prof Dr Mohammad Saifullah.

A total of 20 participants, including dealers, deputy assistant agriculture officers, and students, are engaged in the training. They are set to gain practical knowledge on pest management strategies, nature-based solutions, and sustainable agricultural practices aimed at enhancing climate resilience in crop production.

During the inaugural session, speakers emphasized the significant challenges posed by climate change to agricultural production systems. They underscored the importance of adopting science-based knowledge, nature-based solutions, and sustainable pest management techniques to ensure food security and agricultural sustainability in the context of changing climate conditions.
