Pirojpur: The upazila administration and the Department of Fisheries carried out a conservation drive in the Kocha River under Indurkani upazila to safeguard mother hilsa during the designated conservation period.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, officials seized one thousand meters of illegal fishing nets along with a "behendi" net during the operation, which were subsequently incinerated. The drive took place on Saturday, spearheaded by Upazila Fisheries Officer Fahad Rahman.
In a field belonging to the upazila administration, the confiscated nets were destroyed in the presence of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Hasan Bin Mohammad Ali. This was conducted under the supervision of Marine Fisheries Officer Md Ainul Nishat and the River Police.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Fahad Rahman emphasized the commitment to continue the drive, aiming to ensure the success of the ongoing 22-day ban on hilsa fishing. He stated that legal actions would be enforced against individuals violating government restrictions.
