Dhaka: Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam today stated that the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) Chief Prosecutor has informed that there are no current plans to issue warrants against additional defence personnel. This announcement comes as a response to circulating social media posts that claimed the ICT was preparing to issue arrest warrants against numerous army officers.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shafiqul Alam dismissed these claims as "completely unfounded rumours" and urged the public to disregard such disinformation. He emphasized that these rumours are an attempt to create discord among the general population and within the armed forces specifically.
Shafiqul Alam further warned that the intent behind these malicious rumours is to destabilize the country in anticipation of the upcoming general elections, which are scheduled for the first half of February next year. He reiterated the importance of maintaining national stability during this crucial period.
Additionally, the Press Secretary clarified that the government has no intentions to dismantle the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Instead, he noted that the government is contemplating reforms aimed at enhancing the agency's focus on transborder and external intelligence operations.
