Rangpur: The 17th founding anniversary of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) will be celebrated tomorrow on the campus.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BRUR authorities have organized a series of events to commemorate the occasion.
The celebration will commence with the hoisting of the national and university flags by Rangpur University Implementation Coordination Council Convener Prof Dr Rezaul Haq at 9:30 am, accompanied by the rendition of the national anthem. Notably, economist Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, former adviser to the caretaker government and BRAC Chairperson, will grace the event as the chief guest.
The day's activities will include the release of balloons with a festoon and a vibrant 'Ananda Shovayatra' at 10:00 am. This procession will see the participation of the Vice Chancellor, teachers, students, officials, and employees of the university. Following this, a cake-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 am, succeeded by a reception for the students injured in the July Uprising and a discussion session at 10:40 am.
Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman will also be the chief guest at the discussion, with Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali presiding. Founding BRUR Vice Chancellor Prof Dr M Lutfar Rahman will deliver the keynote address. The event will also feature speeches by Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Enamullah, Kurigram Agriculture University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Md Rashedul Islam, and Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md Shahidul Islam as special guests.
In the afternoon, sports competitions will be held at 4 pm for students, teachers, officers, and employees from different departments. A milad mahfil will take place at the central mosque following Asr prayers at 5 pm, leading into a cultural event at 6:15 pm.
The university campus has been adorned with lights and decorations in anticipation of the celebrations. Prof Md Showkat Ali remarked to BSS that all preparations have been finalized to celebrate the university's 17th founding anniversary while honoring the spirit of the July Uprising.
